Why Scholarships are important:

The need to support Latino families and children has increased dramatically. The percentage of Latino children in the school systems across the state is greater every year. The Latino high school student drop-out rate is also at an unacceptable rate of 60%. Latino students lack the support and encouragement to continue their education due to financial limitations, the need to work to help their families, and other social challenges.

A region where the labor workforce barely holds a High School diploma is not labor competitive and has the potential of becoming socially dysfunctional. In the last years North Carolina has developed a strong economy and human capital. It has become a great place to work, live, and raise families. We want to contribute to maintain such standards by helping Latino students raise their educational level.

But we cannot do it alone, we need your financial support to implement our programs.

Your contribution is tax deductible

How are scholarships awarded:

Scholarships are awarded following a streamline process and eligibility. Once a year, a qualified selection committee reviews the applications and awards scholarships based on our defined criteria. The connection of La Noticia Foundation (LNF) with the Latino community to disseminate information and identify candidates is natural since language and cultural challenges are not present. LNF assigns an administrator to handle the process and uses its own media resources to effectively reach as many students as possible.

Latin American Excelente Awards Gala

Some of the scholarships are presented at the Latin American Excelente Awards black tie gala in Charlotte and in Raleigh. Recipients, parents, and the entire community gather to honor the students and other winners of the Excelente Awards.

2018 marks the 20thanniversary of this black tie annual gala. For each of the previous years, this event has drawn more than 600 people from the Latino community and the Charlotte community-at-large to recognize successful Latinos in business and community service, as well as outstanding students and those who support the Latino community.

Proceeds from Excelente Awards Gala benefit the Latino Student Scholarship Fund of La Noticia Foundation. Each of our student winners get a scholarship in the amount of $2,500.

Each year we receive a minimum of 20 applications to our scholarships. After reading the application requirements and interviewing the students, we feel that it will be great to have the funds to give a scholarship to all of them. All of them are qualified, all of them have so much potential to be successful and so much need, but we do not have the funds to support all of them.

With your financial support we will be able to give more scholarships and help more students realize their dream of attending and graduating from college.
